Call for Interest: Updating Municipal Energy Concepts with the WHY Toolkit

Municipal climate and energy managers and representatives are invited to hear about the new toolkit and energy modelling support for tailored municipal energy system for newly built or existing residential areas. Climate Alliance colleagues organise a set of visits from May to September 2023 to member municipalities to showcase the potentials of the Toolkit.

Municipal climate and energy managers and municipal representatives are invited to hear about the new toolkit and energy modelling support on tailored municipal energy system updates for newly built or existing residential areas. Climate Alliance colleagues organise a set of visits from May to September 2023 to member municipalities to showcase the potentials of the Toolkit. The visits are free of charge and involve a meeting on the visited municipalities' site of 1 hour.

To be able to set up the relevant strategies and implementation plans, this Toolkit will simulate household consumption already before setting up an investment plan for introducing renewables or district heating in the area. In Maintal, Germany, this toolkit currently demonstrates one of its main strengths during the planning process of a newly built district: the fine simulation of household energy consumption from the very small scale of a household, up to the entire district or municipality. This use case of Maintal builds on the challenge of transforming a municipality's residential energy system to an environmentally conscious, sustainable energy system. WHY also supports the planning of the heat supply in Maintal. The provided component analysis' data can be used for the planning process to define the technologies, the heating and energy infrastructure for the entire newly built district and helps to decide of a positive energy quartier concept is feasible. This process and toolkit is designed to be easily replicated in other cities, works in newly built or existing residential areas in need for renovation, and has a high scalability potential.

How to book your date

The visits are offered by Climate Alliannce, you can apply by contacting the WHY Team via e-mail.

How to contribute

Municipal/regional energy managers and climate protection managers are also invited  to help us understand what motivates their citizens to make decisions such as changing their heating system . The results feed in to the WHY Toolkit and support a more precise configuration of components. To be able to do this, we create various types of "personalities" that represent the collective unconscious. These "personalities" represent the European population as much as possible. We count on you who know your community best! Take your time, grab a coffe and imagine....: click here to fill in our survey!
